This project involved strip out, demolition, temporary works and restricted headroom piling. The foundations and first floor frame of the new studio building were constructed within the envelope of an existing heritage listed warehouse building adjacent the Grand Union Canal and A40 Westway. The piles to support the new frame were 28m long carried out using piling rigs in 2.9m headroom under the existing steel frame. This project, part funded by Westminster Council involved construction of a new build, three storey, steel framed building. The works included extensive mechanical and electrical fit-out and glass atrium walling, a fully glazed atrium roof was also provided. Grey water recycling, solar thermal hot water and areas of green roof were installed.
The building provides 222 individual studio spaces all with individual metered power supplies and video entry systems. An exhibition space and cafe/restaurant area are also provided at ground floor.
